How to Care for my Jewellery at Home

Care instructions

Remember - Your Jewellery is Last to Put on in the morning and First to come off in the evening before your shower. Remember: Always put your jewellery on last, after you have applied makeup and perfume

Being gentle with your handmade jewellery can extend its life by years!

Caring for Your Jewellery & Understanding Tarnish

At Mattina Sera, we use high-quality, tarnish-resistant materials designed for everyday wear. While our pieces are made to last, even the best jewellery needs a little care to stay at its best.

Tarnishing is unlikely with normal use, but it can still happen if jewellery is exposed to things like harsh chemicals, or if it's not stored properly. In these cases, it’s considered natural wear and tear rather than a fault.

We always recommend following our care guide to keep your piece looking beautiful. Please note that tarnishing caused by misuse or lack of care isn't covered under warranty—but we’re always here to help with advice on how to restore the shine.

 Waterproof Jewellery

Our jewellery is designed for everyday wear and crafted with exceptional care using only top-quality materials. Each piece is made with three layers of 18K gold plating over durable stainless titanium steel, and features premium cubic zirconia crystals for added brilliance. All of our jewellery is nickel-free, hypoallergenic, and completely safe for sensitive skin.

You can confidently wear your jewellery in the shower, while swimming, or during exercise. It’s built to last, and does not tarnish or fade over time.

To maintain its shine, simply wipe your jewellery with a soft cloth after wear to remove any oils or residue. For occasional deeper cleaning, wash gently with warm water and mild soap, then dry thoroughly. Avoid harsh chemicals such as bleach or abrasive cleaners, as they may affect the finish.

When not in use, we recommend storing your jewellery in a dry place to prevent scratches and preserve its polished look.

We stand by the quality of our Brand, which is why every piece comes backed with a 6 month warranty.

All jewellery should be wiped with a cleaning cloth and stored in a soft pouch when not in use. Remove jewellery before bed, and avoid scratches.

Store pearls in a soft pouch or a lined jewellery box. Avoid plastic bags, which can trap moisture and damage pearls. Ensure pearls are kept away from other jewellery to prevent scratches. Pearls need moisture to maintain their lustre. Avoid storing them in dry or overly humid conditions

Non-Waterproof Gold Plated Jewellery

 Keep Away from Harsh Chemicals

One of the primary reasons gold-plated jewellery fades is exposure to harsh chemicals. Avoid wearing your gold-plated jewellery when using cleaning agents, beauty products, or while swimming in chlorinated pools. Chemicals can erode the gold layer, causing it to fade or even completely wear off.

2. Remove Before Physical Activities

Engaging in physical activities such as exercising, playing sports, or doing household chores can subject your jewellery to friction, sweat, and other factors that contribute to fading. It is best to remove your gold-plated jewellery before engaging in such activities to minimize wear and tear.

3. Store Properly

When you're not wearing your gold-plated jewellery, store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Exposure to sunlight and humidity can accelerate the fading process. Consider using a jewellery box or a soft pouch to protect your jewellery from scratches and prevent contact with air, which can cause oxidation.

4. Avoid Water Exposure

While gold-plated jewellery can handle occasional exposure to water, it is best to remove it before showering, swimming, or doing the dishes. Prolonged contact with water, especially if it contains chemicals or minerals, can cause the gold layer to fade or tarnish over time.

Some Medications can tarnish gold-plated jewellery faster because some medications contain chemicals that react with the base metal underneath the gold plating, leading to discoloration or tarnishing, If you are taking medication for a health condition please See below for a more detailed explanation:
  • Chemical Reactions:
Certain medications, especially those containing sulphur or other reactive elements, can interact with the base metal (like silver, copper, or brass) that's underneath the gold plating.
